PIPELINE Instrumental Review Issue 67 Spring 2005 Six years old, but still available, these two CD’s were sent in by Hipperoos lead guitarist Eric Loy. A guitar trio, their other albums include ‘One Day’s Noise’, ‘Hands On’ and ‘Cornered’. Their repertoire is mainly original material, but they do throw in the odd TV theme. Eric describes them as a power fusion trio including elements of jazz-rock, hard progressive rock, country, blues and jazz. Finger stylist Loy favors a powerful, slightly distorted sound on the live set which starts with The Munsters theme. Adding in a bit of ‘In The Hall Of The Mountain King’, Eric soon launches into a lightning fast solo before returning to the theme, and all in 3 and a half minutes. The ‘Perry Mason’ theme works very well as a guitar feature in Eric’s capable hands and from then on its original material all the way. A couple of the tracks reappear in studio form on ‘Too Busy’, which has one non-original in ‘The Simpsons’ theme. There’s great playing all round from the trio with sympathetic, melodic bass, strong drums and dynamic, adventurous guitar. These two CD’s will appeal to those amongst our readers with an ear for a great guitar technician and a taste for jazz-influenced rock. -Alan Taylor |
